The College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) is an achievement test that measures communication and mathematics skills. It includes four subtests: Essay, English Language Skills, Reading and Mathematics. All students seeking an Associate of Arts or Baccalaureate degree from UCF are required by the State of Florida to satisfy the CLAST requirement. There are several methods by which students may meet this requirement.
When can I take the CLAST?
Students who have completed 18 or more credit hours are eligible to take CLAST.
Transfer Students with more than 60 credit hours who have not taken the CLAST or met the CLAST requirement may be admitted, but they must take the CLAST exam during their first term at UCF. If a student has not met the CLAST requirement and 36 hours of upper-division credit has been registered for and/or earned, than enrollment in future semesters/terms at UCF will be prohibited until the CLAST requirement has been met.
Students with 60 or more credit hours who have not taken the CLAST may be restricted from future registration. Students who have not passed all four subtests of the CLAST may enroll in 36 hours of upper division credit. If the CLAST requirement has not been met and 36 hours of upper division credit has been registered for and/or earned, enrollment in future semesters/terms at UCF will be prohibited until the CLAST requirement has been met. An appeal to continue enrollment must meet certain criteria and be approved by the CLAST Petition Committee (click here for the checklist).
In order to begin this process, you must make an appointment with the CLAST advisor. Please call (407) 823-5109 or e-mail the CLAST Advisor to make an appointment.

How do I prepare for the CLAST?
There are CLAST preparation materials available at libraries and bookstores. Most of these materials cost between $10.00 and $35.00. In addition, the Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) offers preparation resources for CLAST including a math formula sheet, practice tests on computer, and study guides. Workshops may be periodically conducted for the math portion of CLAST, as well. To obtain information about preparation resources through SARC, visit their website at www.sarc.sdes.ucf.edu. SARC is located in Howard Phillips Hall, room 115, and can be reached by telephone at 407-823-5130.

- STA x014: Statistical Methods or any other STA course
- MGF x113: Topics in College Mathematics I
- MGF x114: Topics in College Mathematics II
- MGF x106: Liberal Arts Mathematics I
- MGF x107: Liberal Arts Mathematics II
*If you believe that you might meet this alternative criteria, you can fill out an electronic version of the CLAST Alternative Application Form by clicking here: CLAST Alternative Form
Simply fill in the information on the CLAST Alternative form and save it your computer. You will need to e-mail the form along with a copy of your degree audit to the University Testing Center as an attachment.
When are CLAST Alternatives processed?
CLAST Alternative forms are processed on a bi-weekly basis. Alternative forms submitted to the University Testing Center will be processed on the next upcoming CLAST Alternative processing date. After your alternative is processed, you will receive a letter indicating whether your alternative has been approved. It takes approximately 2-4 weeks from the dates the application was submitted in order for the approved CLAST Alternative to be updated on your degree audit.
Please note: The CLAST "pop up" messages that appear during the registration process will not appear any longer once the complete CLAST requirement has been met and your degree audit is updated.

CLAST Hold Petition is a means by which students can petition a committee to have the registration hold removed from their records temporarily to allow them to register for requested upper division courses for the upcoming semester only. Petitions are reviewed by the CLAST Hold Petition Committee for approval. If you are interested in the CLAST Hold Petition please read the guidelines below. If you feel that you meet one or more of the guidelines and are interested in completing the Hold Petition Process, please e-mail the CLAST Advisor or call (407) 823-5109 to schedule an appointment.
CLAST Hold Petition Checklist - Guidelines to Consider
The CLAST Hold Petition Committee will review CLAST petitions if the student has one or more of the following conditions:
The course requested is only offered once per year.
The student needs to satisfy the summer attendance requirement.
The student has documented learning or other disability that prevents them from passing the CLAST with the appropriate reasonable accommodations.
The student has a documented medical condition that has prevented them form meeting the CLAST requirement.
The student has documentation of consistent efforts to prepare for the CLAST and has taken the CLAST subtest(s) at the following minimum number of times:
Essay 3X
ELS 4X
Reading 4X
Math 4X
The student has documentation of family circumstances that have prevented them form taking or passing the CLAST.

The committee does not consider the following reasons as extenuating circumstances for a student to submit a petition to have a CLAST hold removed:
Student unaware of CLAST requirement.
Student unable to balance school and employment responsibilities.
Student has satisfied 3 out of 4 subtests of the CLAST.
The next test administration of the CLAST is after registration.

If you are seeking a degree in Education and/or if you ever plan to pursue state teaching certification, you may still be responsible for meeting the CLAST requirement through testing. CLAST alternatives do not meet College of Education admission requirements. You MUST meet with an advisor in the College of Education in order to determine what testing requirements apply for admission to the College of Education (ED110, 407-823-3723).
